Artist's Comments

created for Conceptart.org's Industrial Design of the Week: [link]

this week's topic was to create and show the internals of a vehicle. be it a space station, car, tank, etc. i chose the apc i drew for Res-wR which can be found here: [link]

i mainly chose this vehicle because it was simple, and having never done this before, i didn't want to over-extend myself. this is the first picture i have ever done that was lined and rendered in photoshop. usually i do all my lines in sketchbook pro. this is something that i think might be changing.

other than that, here is the copy/paste description used in the submission.

"designed for light action, peace keeping and medivac, this apc's rear cargo was designed for the maximum amount of modularity. the bay of the rear includes a rail system allowing a large variety of cargo to be stored. demonstrated here is a standard crew attachment with room for 8 soldiers. the two closest to the front man the upper turret and navigate while the 6 others can fire from their position inside or can slide down the firing slit's armored shields and take a break.

etc etc"

I always loved cross sections and exploded views of things. So many details and little things to admire.

i really enjoyed them from afar as well... never had done one, and i probably went further laying the foundations than i needed - but it was a very good exercise!

very nice work with the red lighting... that really caught me off guard since it's not what I'm used to seeing from you. it has a different feel, maybe the texture, and the semi gloss of the seats, or something... but the inside really feels great to my eyes. you have an extreme attention to detail.

Reminds me a lot of the good ol M113. Only this machine would be better, sans the armor plates over the hubs. I don't think they'd work, but they might. Just thinking about if there was enough clearance when the shocks adjust for the terrain.

Either way...looks like it'd be a fun ride. :D

yeah - this is my first idw i've ever won but it wasn't that good of a competition... i didn't vote for any of the others so the victory was kinda hollow imo
